I'll tag you

When comparing my internet reading and writing notes with my classmates, I began to see some habitual similarities in the way we all used the web. Checking facebook, as many have already mentioned, is clearly a main priority once we have logged on to the internet.
In a world where modern technology dominates in form of communication, it becomes easy to stay in contact with people, or to engage in social networking, as most college students do, thanks to the internet. Our last blog demonstrated how different people use the internet as a resource for different things: news, education, entertainment, socializing, shopping, etc. Every person seemed to have a routine of when they logged on, where they went first, where they went last, where they spent the most time; the activity online was very habitual.
Every person also had their own type of ‘personality’ that was distinguished by which sites they logged on to most often. The gamers were easily identified by addicting games, as the social butterflies were with facebook or myspace, and the students interested in society with The New York Times or CNN. However, I was also able to see how diverse people were, as they stretched out beyond their usual genre of sites and all met for some ‘nice’ wall post exchanges and picture tagging on facebook. As I mentioned earlier, facebook is taking over. Almost every blog I viewed had at least one facebook login every 48 hours. The need that our generation has today to stay socially interactive with the people around us, or even not that geographically near us for that matter, has made the social networks of the internet today some of the most actively used sites out there.
The internet may have previously been used mainly as a resource for information, but has grown to a popular means of communication and entertainment. A new type of information that allows the world to stay connected.
